Ok so ran into my first engine fault light today. Car has been running fine, although for a long time now ive had a rythmic metalic knocking and squeak from something on the drivers side around the timing belt area. Mar 26, 2017. #2. Hi, Welcome to the FF. The 1.8 engine temperature sensor has a 4 pin connector, but only 3 of them are populated. Referring to the diagram below, A1 = Empty, A2 = Red/black. B1 = White, B2 = Orange. Test the resistance of the sensor between pins B1 and B2 with the engine hot and cold. .
